Transforming Waste into Value – Empowering Inclusive Strategies for Sustainable Plastic Management.

On October 2024, Perempuan Laut Indonesia, represented by Kirana Agustina, Perempuan Laut Founder and Managing Director, moderated an all-female panellist on industry panel session on transforming waste into value – empowering inclusive strategies for sustainable plastic management.

The session was part of the Australian Government CSIRO ’s Indo-Pacific Plastics Innovation Network (IPPIN)’s flagship annual event, where the brightest innovators in Indonesia (now also Vietnam and Thailand) showcased their solutions to combat plastic waste in the region.

Discussing how each institutions integrated GEDSI principles in the waste management with an all-female panellist was perfect. The three amazing ladies representing Indonesia National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP), Duitin Indonesia and Amandina Bumi Nusantara shared their success stories and how each organization is advancing circular economy through inclusive multi-stakeholder collaboration as well as utilizing technology and innovation.

Throughout the session, we all agreed women play an important role in plastic waste management cycle and women is also the most affected by the plastic pollution. Thus, empowering women, providing them with access to funding, networks and relevant skills, will support social justice, equity and improve the economy.

Thank you CSIRO, Australian Embassy, and Harapura Impact for having us!
